Alaska Staff Development Network is planning to offer in-person CS Principles workshops (both summer and academic year) for 2026-27
Code.org's Computer Science Principles course is designed to support teachers with 9-12th grade students, introducing foundational computer science concepts while exploringn computing's transformative impact on our world. The flexible curriculum can be taught as a standard course or an AP course, accomodating differing school and student needs. Building upon CS Discoveries, this course delves deeper into topics such as internet infrastructure and the societal impacts of computer science, fostering critical thinking and real-world connections. The course welcomes both beginners and students with prior coding experience, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive approach to computer science education.
Teachers Commitments
Accepted teachers must:
Attend the 5-day, in-person workshop with their cohort in June in Anchorage.
Attend 4 follow up virtual workshops during the school year.
Teach the course during the 2025-26 school year.
Support student recruitment and enrollment that represents of the school’s overall student population.
Costs and Access
Qualifying teachers accepted into the program attend workshops at no cost
Non-qualifying Alaska teachers pay $900 for the program (significantly discounted from national rates through Code.org support)
The Code.org curriculum, online student learning platform, and teacher community support are available year-round at no cost
The Alaska Staff Development Network computer science program manager and facilitators are happy to provide implementation support

Schools must:

Have leadership support for CS Principles Program
Commit to offering CSP in 2026-2027

Scholarship Types
The Program will provide-
Help schools decide whether or not AP Computer Science Principles is a good fit.
Help schools navigate the logistics of creating and adding a new course, and recruit students for enrollment in the first year of the course and beyond.
Provide new-to-CS teachers with a rigorous professional learning program
Provide students with a strong curriculum to help them not only complete the course but also pass the AP exam.
Build internal capacity to support a strong computer science program in future years.
Criteria
School serves 9th-12th grade students and does not currently offer CS Principles.
School leaders support CS Principles Program
Will offer CSP in 2026-2027
Serves all student populations
The program is available at no cost to teachers whose principals plan to support and offer the course in the fall for students.
If you do not meet the criteria, the cost is $900.00
Some scholarships are provided by Alaska Airlines for Alaska Airlines travel to and from Alaska Airlines hubs.
Lunch and free forever curriculum is provided at the workshop.
